Chapter Two
Meeting Enzo
Two days later, I was holding a tiny six-week-old puppy
and was completely in love.
He was sweet, gentle and somehow already felt like ours.
The breeder, Simon, was lovely too. Years earlier, he had
welcomed a dog into his own life while struggling with
depression. That relationship eventually inspired him to
begin breeding dogs, and he had quite literally transformed
his home into a sanctuary for them.
Having struggled with my own mental health for most of my
life, I connected with that immediately. It felt as though
we had found Enzo in exactly the right place.
Simon agreed that we could adopt him, but preferred his
puppies to complete their vaccinations before leaving.
That meant we had several weeks to wait before we could
finally bring Enzo home.
